Murphy Art Center, IndianapolisThe Midwest Electronic Music Festival was a blast! Most artists ranged between Autechre and James Bernard, which needless to say is right up my alley. But the greatest surprise did not come from the concerts, but from the building in which the event took place. Built as a theatre in the 1920's, then remodeled as a storage following WW II, Murphy Art Center now hosts some 25 art studios. Instead of going left 5 meters, Arman, Stacey and I went right and then up the stairway, making a round through the whole building before discovering where the Summit actually was. What a stroke of luck this was! If creativity had temples, this is what they would look like. If artists go to heaven, this is what that heaven would look like. I was thoroughly impressed. I got back to the car to pick up the cammera (had it not been in the car, I would probably drive back to pick it up). I bougth a 20" by 30" collage by the name of Circles, made by Stallio, a member of one of the collectives from the building. |
