Romania

On August 11, 1999, the total eclypse of the Sun was observed in Europe. The center was passing through Romania, above the small town of Horezu in the Karpathians. Getting to the mountain top and back was an adventure which involved renting a Dacia altogether with a driver from the border onwards, calling a mysterious taxi phone number in Horezy (that noone answered), meeting an African guy in the local inn (obviously not a local), gathering at the deserted school yard at midnight (to wait for a bus for Dracula's castle?), stopping in the middle of the forrest when the drivers demanded more money half way, and so forth. When we finally got to the top, we found ourselves attending a party organized by a bunch of nature-loving-new-age-hippy campers on a generator-powered sound system. And here the real story only begins ...
