J. in front of the CNN building. Downtown Atlanta looked interesting enough when I drove along the freeway through it. Talking a walk was a completely different experience; I could not recall what was the last time when walking somewhere felt as unsafe and as uncomfortable. As I learned while living in Philadelphia, any sense of urban safety is psychologial and largely a matter of habit, so part of the discomfort I guess could be blamed on the fact that I was just coming back from Princeton, NJ which is about as orderly as a town could get.
