DJ S.T.R.O.B.,
also known under his original name DJ Dejan Mirkovic is going
to be remembered as the person who is probably the most responsible
for the development of the Yugoslav techno clubscene...Actually, started
DJing in 1994 (April 5th) at Academia Club, together with DJ Mark
Wee, who has been the resident DJ there. The night was called 'Trance
Europe Express'...
After it, DJ S.T.R.O.B. started playing at X-Industria Club on
Sundays, adding a new day to the Belgrade's clublife schedule. Few weeks
later, DJ Mark Wee & DJ Innvision joined him, slowly making
one of the most important clubnights ever. When DJ Eye joined
them, the United DJ's Of Trance was formed. That was the first techno
DJing formation over here ever...Their Sunday gigs at X-Industria Club
had a kind of club status injecting the real energy to Yugoslav house
& techno scene.
Then, DJ S.T.R.O.B. joined DJ Mark Wee and DJ Innvision
on Yu Radio, starting new techno radio show called 'Pulsar', but after
'Pulsar' was banned, he continued his radio activity together with Mark
Wee's 'Superbooster' and they started the new radio show called
'Generator', which slowly became one of the most important techno broadcasting
over here. Later, DJ Eye joined them.
After 'United DJs Of Trance' broke their collaboration, DJ S.T.R.O.B.,
DJ Mark Wee & DJ Eye get together and formed Integra Productions,
starting making their own gigs, mostly at Club Industria. That's how
legendary 'Positive Education' venue started out...
DJ S.T.R.O.B. played all around Serbia, including some of the
most important club gigs as well as the raves (Enlitement, Serbia
Rave Today, The Prodigy rave, etc.). His style was probably most
club friendly optimistic uplifting sound joining house, progressive,
techno, trance and acid heard over here ever...
...But, so unexpected DJ S.T.R.O.B. found that he is seriously
ill, fighting against the cancer he had...He decided to stop DJing on
May 11th 1996 at his birthday gig (may 12th) playing probably the best
set ever on 'Taurus' party in Club Industria. The last record he spinned
was V-Tracks' 'Heretic Voices'. When he finished his set, he threw the
records to the crowd...that was probably the most touchy moment we will
remember...
Even he was very weak, he never stopped being active in the clublife,
living with the music to the very end. DJ S.T.R.O.B. turned off
on the night between November 9th and 10th 1996...
"It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of Dejan
Mirkovic (DJ S.T.R.O.B.), who died on Sunday November 10th. Dejan was
one of the originators of the Yugoslav techno scene, a brilliant and
knowledgeable DJ, with a huge passion for music and life. All his friends
in London send their deepest sympathies to his wife Maria, his daughter
and his family and friends. His memory will always be with us."
Barney York, Wax Magazine (December 96)
Just like the strobe
light, DJ S.T.R.O.B. shined so bright so everyone noticed and
remembered him for life...
