Interview with FRED GITEAU
(conducted by Milos Krstajic & Boza Krstajic)
YUTechno: Fred, you are here with us again, how do you see things now?
Here we built a nice scene, you know. Coming each time
with different people and now it's group of people who always come.
And i know alot of people there I love to see. I dont
speak to them all but i notice them because it is nearly two years
i am coming here so I know a bit some party people !!. It's maybe 500
people maximum but they know really how to
party and they know they will get cool music, it can be more hard,
more progressive but they come to listen to the music. You can do bigger
parties of course with big promo but not with smaller audience.
I think we built this trance scene with good concept of organization, it's
different
now and people are open to the music. They're curious and don't want
the act whith each time same sound, and each time same thing. For me,
each time i come i try to play different music to surprise the people,
and I can reach more progressive sounds when I'm playing after or before a DJ
who play harder, and reverse way !!!
YUTechno: Earthdance Yugoslavia, will it be or not?
Yes. We plan to bring
Marcus from Hamburg, he is from Der Stern Von Afrika and from Intact
Instinct and he is a really good dj, he mix almost only records. His
style is like a slammin' techno psychedelic, Der Stern Von Afrika style.
and Mahasuka will come also. He is from Intact Instinct, he is really
one of the best djs for me from germany when we talk about trance, he played
at voov and also on other big open air festivals and plays nearly everywhere
and he has got more deep psychedelic sounds.
They are both from Hamburg a city who produce constant quality trance sound
in for a while.
YUTechno: What about collaboration with YU Artists?
I start to make some music here, with Vaki. He is a really good guy, and
it is one track, a remix from Moksha and next time i come i will have
to start making a full album, Also there is Bing Bong, one other guy, he is
playing
electric guitar and we recorded him live.
YUTechno: Do you plan to release it on POF?
Yeah, yeah. It will also contain remix from Moksha. I know Vaki since the
first time I came here and he was really enthusiastic and he is also one
of guys who worked hard to succeed and for this I can congratulate him, same
for Marco Nastic who is today brilliant techno DJ. On another way, I have
been disapointed by some people here who want to do too much sort of
competition. I really think this is stupid as we always learn from each
others and I myself learned a lot from people the last ten years ! You also
have to keep an open ear always.
YUTechno: So, you are more to experimenting in sound?
It is more in bringing emotion to people, and on set i made this weekend
after AP, I made love with music I was totally out for three hours,
and i wake up and take a look at people and see people smiling and
was good and i got back to my thing. And when i finished, it was like
orgasm. I was dead and it was so good. For me, it was most violent
xperience. Because I think like people will kill me because it was break,
for nearly 10 minutes with no sound due to a technical problem out of my
control !! I too start in very very stressy conditions but it started then so
directly !!! For me each time i come in Belgrade even it is small event
i try to do better than last time and i always try to concentrate, and sometimes
i am
not satisfied . And yesterday there, many people came and talk to me, people
i don't see for long time. I played a lot of new pof stuff, and people
were full on, and for everything of this I'm testing lots of tracks in
Belgrade as audience is attentive.
YUTechno: What do you plan to release on POF in next few months?
We have new Intact Instinct coming, Moksha rmx coming, just signing
track from Boris Blenn (EU). I played at start of my set the track and
it's like very old skool trance and then full percussions. It's like
Trommelmaschine a bit. it's banging track.
YUTechno: And do you think that here in Belgrade is still better and better
every time you come?
I think it's more mature for the music. I think that now people know
what they get. You can bring names, you can bring also unknown DJ and
audience get what they want. People know more about the music too.
YUTechno: goa trance:
so goa trance music you got lots of good things and i see lot of things
coming from goa trance. For ten years i listen to electronic music.
And i like very much, and i was one of the first in France to push
strong this, and release for Step 2 House.
When you're DJ first you must play music you like, and try to make
good building, and then make like you and dance. That's it. So, as
you are a dj, you should constantly be open to evolution and not stay
fixed to same foot in the same shoe. Because it's stupid for me, and
as a dj if i start to play too much the same people will get bored.
And i like if people come to me and say "I didn't like the set this time ",
because it's challenge
for me here, I have to make also evolution with people.
YUTechno: Would you like to buy a flat here, to come more?
This is a question, i told you that i want to do things with people
here, and some things started and i'm waiting and don't see nothing,
i don't know if they want or don't want, their problem, but when i
start something i want to do company, work with distribution and
record shop.
YUTechno: Can you tell us more about record shop?
Yeah, i can tell you that i'm still talking and looking for good
people to take part of the project at need good organization here...
For me it was good to stay here for two weeks, i saw things from
people i didn't see before, from people i like. And, i want to make
more music here. I couldn't live here all the time because i need
also to go back to Paris, and i live there, and i also have to
leave Paris because there's too much stress. Now there are many
things to do here, and people have to be together and make scene
evolving. And now it starts to be: I would like to make more parties with
cool deco concept and more alternative live act, etc... Better than doing
less trance parties but do really quality ones as you can find in Germany.
YUTechno: Who do you like the most on the trance scene as artist?
It's Tsuyoshi, because he was the main person to make psychedelic
goa scene becoming big. Mark Allen for what he did also, Return to the
Source, Quirk. I like AP for what they made; Tsuyoshi for example
is making Prana and was too much getting commercial and he said
let's go on an alternative project and Joujouka was born !! But he is
evolving with always an eperimenting mind.
YUTechno: And do you listen only psychedelic music, or only electronic music?
I listen a lot of electronic music - hip hop, jungle, techno, i
always have in my box some different records. I played last Friday
with Mark Wee, and i played techno. I can play long, i like to play
5 or 6 hours, because i can play all the time. I'm starting with
more minimal progressive techno stuff, then continue with some
psychedelic tracks, and then building and building, i love progressive
sounds. Also i would like to come one time and to make a special set
with some old school techno.
YUTechno: Yes, and you also tried to bring Miss Djax to Belgrade?
Yes i tried, but he is full busy, we will see...
YUTechno: What are your favourite tracks at the moment (september)?
Intact Instinct "When Woodworm Works Worse", Boris Blenn "The Sessions", Moksha
"Huxley's Medecine" - Bog Je Ljubav Remix, Hovek Olam "Hovek Olam", new AX.OM.
All of this gonna be on next POF album Electro Psychedelic trance 2. I also
like very much remix of Chakra "X-Files" by Quirk and "Re-Psycle Big Psyche
Remix" by Joujouka, great !!!
YUTechno: And how about some all time top N, all music genres?
Pink Floyd "Meddle", Fluke "Electric Guitar", Vernon "Wonderland", Fuse "FU2",
Galaxy to Galaxy "high tech jazz", Der Dritte Raum "Electro Disco" Genetic
"trancemisssion - MWNN rmx". I was also big fan of all maxis from new order !!
In fact, too many things and I would need long reflexion to do such a chart as
only in electronic music I have so many classic !!
(note: following are questions after cancelling of Earthdance Yugoslavia)
YUTechno: EarthDance cancelling - connected with your thoughts about our
people and whole this f**king situation.
Well, regarding cancellation of Earthdance, it has reached nearly politic
problems and I feel sad about it. What we wanted to give was a message of
peace and now the situation gets harder in your country and I feel really bad
to see that people who live there are just in the middle of a politic fight. I
see it's hard for you to build things, even cultural things at the end...I
just want to say that I'm thinking about all of you nice party people every
minute and I will be there again with you all as soon as it will be possible
to make something. I won't make any political comment as I'm not here for
that, but I will tell and show to people what energy is coming for Belgrade
where people are nice but hostage of politic. I personnaly don't know bad
people in Belgrade but wonderfull and nice party freaks who want to fight for
a peacefull world. Hang on
YUTechno: What do you think, in which way should trance go (in the whole
world), when we are speaking about medias? How far would you
extend the whole thing?
Trance should reach more clubs all over. Also this would help to get more
attention to this style of music and bring more people in it. Medias should
talk more about global trance and not be fixed to Trance = Goa as at the end
when everybody used this fashion thing to write papers or build compilations
but too much at the same time was too much and today, it's very few important
medias who have a part about trance. Also, we might need more DJ's able to
play good trance that can play everywhere. Anyway, nearly nobody is releasing
and publishing music just for fun...
