Kozmik Communications is one of the leading DJ organizations in
Yugoslavia. It was founded in autumn '94 by music editors from Radio B92
Gordan Paunovic, Vlada Janjic & Boza Podunavac. After births of Kozmik
and another big organization, Integra, nothing was the same on
Yugoslav techno scene. As the people from Kozmik say, they formed it because
they were not satisfied with current sound that was played in the clubs, like
trance and commercial versions of techno and house. So, they were into funky
techno & house sound, as they are now, plus drum'n'bass and jungle which were
added later.
A year after its genesis, Kozmik started to bring, at the first place and
the most techno, then house and drum'n'bass international DJs. In the
beginning they started with not-so-famous names, but later, with building
their reputation, they brought very big names. International guests, brought
by Kozmik in Belgrade were (chronologicaly listed): Riccardo Rocchi /
ACV Records, Mark EG / Eternity Magazine, Warlock / Kickin
Records, Ross Allen / Dorado & Filter Records, Craig Thomas /
Digital Nation, Colin Faver / Deep Space / Kiss 100 FM, Nikki C
/ Jungle Mania / Jungle Nation, Stuart McMillan & Orde Meikle (Slam) /
Soma, Phil Perry / Full Circle, Brenda Russell / Deep Space /
Mayday 9, Billy Nasty / Theremin Management, Trevor Rockcliffe /
Ultimate, Francesco Farfa (Italy), Hell / Disko B, Eric
Powell / Ultimate, Charlie Hall / MC Projects / Ultimate,
Misjah / X Trax / XS & Daz Saund / Ultimate.
Kozmik DJs didn't play at raves organized in Yugoslavia. The reason for that
is, as they say, that from the beginning they wanted to be only a little
addition to the scene, and its corrector, and that they always had clear
conception - underground. So the organizators of bigger events haven't
called them. Only on Teknosys, rave organized by Kozmik, Integra and
club Industria last year, Boza Podunavac played with Misjah, Good
Groove, Andy Slate and Mark Wee. Kozmik DJs have played in almost all
Belgrade clubs & cafes, at the first place Industria, Soul Food, Dom Omladine
and Barutana / UrbaBar, then Shlep, Omen, Magna House and in many clubs all
around Yugoslavia and Macedonia.
Kozmik has a well media cover on Radio. They have four broadcasts on Radio
B92 92.5 MHz FM: Spin, BPM and Relaxacija (these are one of the first techno
related broadcasts in Yugoslavia) and Club Chart. Relaksacija goes
every Monday 01.00-02.00 and presents deep house by Vlada Janjic. Spin
is edited by Gordan Paunovic, and goes every Tuesday from 22.00 till 24.00.
You can hear new techno, house and drum'n'bass releases, and in the second
hour of the broadcast goes Spin Mix, mix by some DJ from Belgrade scene.
BPM is Boza Podunavac's two-hour long live techno mix, which runs
every Friday from 02.00 till 04.00. Club Chart goes every Saturday
22.00-23.00, and on this chart are techno, house and d'n'b hits, lined up by
music editors of Radio B92.
